South China Sea 2005
South China Sea 2005The South China Sea is subject to the heaviest commercial boating traffic in the world and is therefore littered with wrecks. The wrecks vary from WWII battlecruisers and mine sweepers to container ships and oil tankers through to small coastal trading junks.
The highlight of this trip was diving the HMS repulse for the first time. This British Battle Cruiser was sunk by the Japanese during WWII. It sunk very quickly in 55m of water near Tioman Island on the East Malaysian Coast. The wreck does not get dived often as it is reasonably difficult with the strong currents, depth and low viz not to mention the hazards of wreck diving. To dive this whole wreck you would need in excess of 100 dives on it. I managed just 5, but will return again to explore it further.
